Biography
Dr.Douglas Slakey is an internationally recognized transplant surgeon, healthcare leader, and academician with approximately 30 years of experience in clinical and healthcare leadership. His expertise includes transplant surgery, healthcare transformation, patient-centered care, health systems science, and improving healthcare processes and reliability.He is the founding Chair of Health Systems Science at Belmont University's Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine, where his work focuses on healthcare innovation, technology, data analytics, AI, healthcare value, and systems improvement.Previously, he served as Chief of Surgical Services at Advocate Aurora Health, providing strategic leadership across surgical services, and spent 21 years at Tulane University, ultimately becoming Professor and Chair of Surgery.Dr. Slakey is also the author of The Process Manifesto: Improving Healthcare in a Complex World and has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles. His education includes a BA and MPH from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin, with residency/fellowship training at the Medical College of Wisconsin, University of Oxford, and Johns Hopkins.
